Our guides explain car financing in plain language for Canadians with any credit history. This page explains how we write them and what you can expect from them.

Who writes our guides

Guides are written and maintained by the Affordrive editorial team. Each guide shows the date it was last updated.

How we research

  • For rules set by governments, such as driver's licensing, immigration status and consumer protection, we rely on official sources like ontario.ca, DriveTest, canada.ca and the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada, and link to them where a guide depends on a specific rule.
  • For lender requirements, we use lenders' own published program information. Requirements vary by lender, so we describe what's common rather than promising any outcome.
  • Interest rates in our guides and calculators are typical ranges for illustration. They are not offers. Your actual rate is set by the lender.

Keeping guides current

Rules change. When a government or lender changes a rule we cover, we update the affected guides and their "Updated" date.

Independence

Affordrive is paid by participating dealerships when we connect them with an applicant (see how we make money). Dealerships don't pay for coverage, don't review our guides before publication and can't change what we write.

Not financial advice

Our guides are general information to help you understand your options. They aren't personal financial, legal or immigration advice.
